Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. Inside each tooth, there is soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or damaged, it can cause pain and swelling.

During the procedure, the dentist removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and then seals it to prevent further infection. In most cases, a filling or crown is placed on top to protect the tooth and restore its function.

What to expect during treatment?

Why might you need a root canal?

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn’t go away
  • Darkening of the tooth

What to expect?

The treatment usually takes one or two visits. Your dentist will numb the area to make sure you don’t feel pain during the procedure. After the treatment, your tooth will be restored, and you should be able to use it normally.

Root canal treatment can save your tooth and relieve pain, helping you keep your natural smile for years to come!

Does a root canal hurt?

Many people think a root canal is painful, but the procedure itself is usually not painful because the area will be numbed with an anesthetic. After the treatment, you might feel some discomfort or mild soreness, but this can be managed with pain relief medication.

What happens if I don’t get a root canal?

If you don’t get the treatment, the infection can spread and cause more severe pain, damage to the bone around the tooth, or even lead to tooth loss. It’s important to address the problem as soon as possible.

How will I feel after a root canal?

After the procedure, it’s normal to experience some tenderness or discomfort for a few days, especially if there was infection. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help, and most people find that the discomfort goes away in a few days.

Will my tooth look the same after a root canal?

Yes, the tooth can look the same as before the treatment. However, after a root canal, the tooth may be more fragile, so your dentist may recommend placing a crown or filling to protect and strengthen it.
